Kids Headphones for Travel: EasySMX Review

We have arrived in New Zealand after a 14 hour flight from Vancouver! The flight went great! Two of my secret weapons from my packing list: new movies on the tablet and good headphones! You might wonder why I care about the headphones. Don’t they hand them out on the plane for kids? Well, yes and no.

More and more airlines offer limited entertainment and perks. Headphones are sold just like bottled water on most of the domestic flights I have taken. And increasingly airlines are following the low cost model and do not have screens in the seat backs and offer an app to download onto your phone to enjoy inflight entertainment instead.

Kids Headphones for the Airport

When we try a new airline we always travel with a tablet with games, my iPhone with new movies downloaded on to it, and kids earphones! They are great for before the flight at the airport as well. But that is not it. After a few mistakes, I always make sure that I have headphones for kids that actually fit their heads! Most of the free ones we have gotten on board aircrafts are the earbud style, which do not stay in their ears nor do I think they are very safe as they sit inside the ear. The typical headphone style that is also sometimes supplied is designed for an adult head. This often means that my 4 year old is constantly having them fall off his head. I try and avoid frustration at all costs and always bring my boy’s headphone! Lastly, I bought cute elmo ones that said from ages 3-99, but this universal fit meant that the smallest size was actually way to big for my then three year old. So despite the cute look, they did not work for us.

So what did we pack for our 14 hour flight from Vancouver to New Zealand?

Headphones for Kids

We have a pair of these EasySMX headphones and they have been a hit. They have soft comfortable foam that I look for when choosing kid safe headphones and the most important part, they are volume limiting headphones

These children’s earphones come in a variety of colours for girls and boys and feature a tangle free cord, because you know how things end up all jumbled up in the bottom of the kid’s carry-on luggage.

These headphones are designed for kids aged 3 and up, so they may not be the perfect toddler headphones. Just keep that in mind when you purchase, but they are for sure something your child can grow with.

These child headphones from SMX are super soft, I want to wear them. They are also quite light, weighing only 130g

Features of the EasySMX Kids Headphones for Travel

  • volume limiting 80-85dB suitable for kids
  • high quality sound from these children’s earphones
  • soft and comfortable ear pads
  • adjustable headband
  • lightweight
  • multiple colors
  • compatible with all devices equipped with a 3.5mm stereo jack ( so pretty much anything you will come across these days! I haven’t seen a different head phone jack size since the 1980s )
  • perfect for school headphones where they ask for student’s to supply their own
  • best kids headphones for travel that we have tried
  • cost effective

Overall these kids headphones from EasySMX have been great for my boys and our travel. We have been using them for a couple months and they have held up well. My biggest problem with headphones is when Markus pulls on the cord too much and uses them for a toy. Then they end up getting broken. With these I have restricted him to “listening only” and now that he is almost 5, it is easier to manage! Mattias won’t take them off his head and after minecraft and angry birds at Vancouver Airport, they were perfect and comfortable for the plane.
