5 Reasons to take your Family to North Dakota this Summer
Summer Holidays mean travel for my family. They always have. This year we are looking at summer road trips and North Dakota kept coming up as a great place to visit.
Here are the TOP 5 reasons why we want to take our kids to North Dakota this Summer
1. Outdoor Fun in North Dakota
Summer is all about the outdoors for our family. North Dakota offers so much for outdoor lovers. From horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, fossil digs, and waterparks, we will be busy every day. For those of you with older kids, there is also lots of mountain biking, hunting and golfing.
Did you know that there are more than 110 golf courses that you can play all weekend for less than a single round in other states?
Part of what draws me to North Dakota is the badlands and the amazing landscapes you will find. As a photographer, visiting the Petrified Forest is on my North Dakota Bucket List!
2. Wildlife Viewing in North Dakota
Mattias and Markus love animals. Yes, we visit zoos. Yes, we visit wildlife centres. and Yes, we watch animals in the wild. In North Dakota, you will find more wildlife refuges than in any other state. With four zoos and a National Buffalo Museum there is plenty to keep the animal lovers busy!
3. Splashing and Swimming in North Dakota
When choosing accommodations in North Dakota, there are several hotels with indoor waterparks, and there are rec-centers with lazy rivers. Summer fun is also all about the outdoor water parks! We hope to check out Raging Rivers Waterpark in Mandan and Davies Outdoor pool and Waterpark in Fargo.
And if lakes are your thing, grab a canoe or kayak and hit the water.
4. History and Culture in North Dakota
The thrill of digging for dinosaur bones puts smiles on the faces of my boys. I will not miss having the camera ready as they play paleontologist and search for prehistoric remains. There is also significant Native American culture, as they inhabited the region several thousand years ago and built a significant agricultural and trading society before it was sealed by Europeans. We plan to explore the Lewis and Clark trail along the Missouri River and see how the first settlers came to be in North Dakota.
5. Entertainment in North Dakota
North Dakota offers an array of entertainment options for families of all ages. From concerts to semi-pro sports and plenty of shopping and dining options.
North Dakota’s epic landscapes and entertainment for families with children of all ages draws me to explore it this summer on our family roadtrip.
