Just steps from the UNESCO World Heritage site and NEW 7th Wonder of the World lies the Movenpick Petra Resort.

Petra, lies about three hours by car from Amman, Jordan’s capital city. It is Jordan”™s biggest tourist draw and worth it”™s status as the New 7th Wonder of the World. Famous for its red rock-cut architecture, Petra was the capital city of the Nabataens and established as early as 312 BC. How long should you stay in Petra? Plan to stay 3 days (or more)…  to see as much as you can, and the Movenpick Petra Resort Hotel should be on the top of the list for travellers who want comfort and luxury just outside the entrance to Petra. The site itself is 264 square kilometres of red rock cliffs, indicate water systems, and rock-cut architecture. It is impossible to truly put into words, the entrance to Petra, a one kilometre stretch of winding earthquake separated rock, known as the “siq” that protected the ancient city from would be attackers.

Where To Stay in Petra: Movenpick Petra Review

5 STAR SERVICE AND LUXURY await those who visit the Movenpick Petra Resort. From the moment you enter the hotel until the time you have to leave, every need is attended to. Featuring a breakfast buffet, dinner buffet, restaurant, fitness centre and sauna as well as an outdoor pool, while not visiting the Rose City of Petra, guests of the Movenpick are well taken care of.

The Movenpick Petra Resort is adorned in oriental features, with Middle Eastern fabrics. The room decor of the 187 newly renovated rooms and suites, is modern and classy. Our room overlooked the pool. The 3rd floor balcony was perfect to sit out and enjoy Wadi Musa. Known to most tourists as Petra, the town is actually called Wadi Musa. Our room had a king bed and a pull out couch. The bathroom was big, had a tub, perfect with kids, and a bidet. My Canadian kids are still getting use to the idea, and thought it was a sink just for them UGHHHH! The room also featured a complementary non-alcoholic minibar, large water bottles were provided each day, as well as a nespresso machine, nescafe and an assortment of teas. Room service was available, including morning a la carte breakfast.

I have never had turn down service before, I am generally in the room when they come by, so always turn it down. But I was spoiled when they did arrive, as we were at dinner and our entire room was cleaned up (with kids, you know how a hotel room turns into a tornado with kids), and the beds made ready for bed. Slippers and robes were provided, and enjoyed ; )

One of the things about travelling with kids is SPACE. You can read more about Family Hotel Musts, and the Movenpick Petra was perfect. We loved that after spending a day on our feet exploring Petra that we could easily dress for dinner and head to the on-site buffet. A huge assortment of local cuisine, typical western eats and other asian foods are available at dinner. The dessert table was to die for!

Favourites at the Movenpick Petra Resort:

  • Location Location Location. The Movenpick Petra is located across the street from the entrance to the site. Some other high end hotels will require a taxi ride costing close to 10JD each way. This was the big sell for us. Walking Petra for the day can be exhausting. Especially since the walk back is uphill. So knowing you have the shortest walk out of the site right to your comfortable hotel was a big plus for us
  • Friendly staff. The restaurant staff were so good with the kids, from the host to the servers, even when my kids were bing kids (ie shitheads at the table) we had nothing but great service with a smile.
  • Having a room with a pull out couch gave us more room. As I mentioned before, SPACE is so important with little ones
  • Modern decor, a well equipped bathroom, free fast wifi and over-the-top turn down service

If I had to say something negative, it would be that he pool was freezing at the beginning of March. But it is winter in Jordan, and the pools are not heated. I wish there would have been a hot tub option, but that does not seem to be popular in this part of the world.

This was our first time staying at a Movenpick Resort and we would choose the Movenpick again. In Jordan, the Movenpick Resorts have two locations in Petra, the Movenpick Petra Resort, the Movenpick Nanataen Castle with amazing panorama views of Petra, Movenpick Aqaba in downtown Aqaba, Movenpick Aqaba Tala Bay and Movenpick Dead Sea & Spa.
