Edom Hotel Petra Review

2017-03-30 by Lindsay Nieminen

Edom Hotel Petra Review Three Star Hotel in Petra Jordan

Edom Hotel Petra Jordan Review

A modest outward appearance, Edom Hotel in Petra, does not disappoint visitors who enter its doors. Actually I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel, and enjoyed my two nights so much, I plan to return very soon.

Edom Hotel Petra, is a Three Star Hotel is located a block from the entrance to the Petra Visitors Centre in Jordan. Its location is ideal for visitors as no transportation is required to gain access to Petra. (Taxi’s from some of the hotels can cost around JD10 each way). After walking multiple kilometres through Petra, a large welcoming lobby with free wifi and comfortable rooms await Edom Hotel’s guests.

Buffet breakfast is served in the large dining room and keen eyes will spot a cave at the far end of the room. Breakfast choices at Edom Hotel include eggs and pancakes, 4 or 5 choices of hot food, as well as toast, pita bread, hummus and common Jordanian breakfast items including tomato, cucumber, pickles and dates.

A dinner buffet is also available at Edom Hotel, offering a selection of salads and hot entree options. The chef’s at Edom Hotel steal the show. At every meal, the Head Chef is there with a smile on his face and a warm greeting for all. The boys were treated to a special desert our first dinner at Edom, where the felt very special. The next morning, special pancakes were delivered to our table when the chef found out that Mattias loved pancakes!

Edom Hotel Jordan Petra REview

So why visit Edom Hotel in Jordan’s Petra?

Petra is a must see for any visitor to Jordan, and is also a common side trip for visitors to Israel. Nestled in the town of Wadi Musa, Petra is a world wonder. It is impossible to explain what it is like to walk through the Siq, a gorge made from tectonic forces which split the rock into two, and emerging at the Treasury, through a small crack between the cliffs. The capital city of the Nabataen”™s, Petra remained undiscovered until the 1800s. It was inhabited by the Nabataens around 300 BC and many of its wonders, cut into the Rose coloured stone were built in that time.

In Modern times, the caves were inhabited by bedoiun, who lived in Petra. In the 1980s, they moved to a nearby village, where homes, schools, electricity and running water, were provided to them. Only the residents of this village are permitted to work in Petra, and you will see them each day with their donkeys or camels, or tents with souvenirs.

Marguerite van Geldermalsen, wrote Married to a Bedouin, a book which only made me want to return to Petra even more. She has a shop in Petra, where you can buy her book and handmade jewlery.
