Horseback Riding in Langley : Socially Distanced Fun for All Ages

2020-09-05 by Lindsay Nieminen

Last week, we had the opportunity to go horseback riding with Glen Valley Stables in Campbell Valley Park. If you are looking to get in the outdoors, away from everyone else, this is the perfect activity and one of the popular things to do in Langley! Ages 6 and up are welcome to ride with Glen Valley making it the perfect activity for my horse-crazy 7 year old! This is a great year round activity and perfect fall family activity in the Fraser Valley!

Getting to the Campbell Valley Park Equestrian Centre is easy, it is off 16th Ave and 212th St in Langley, an easy 10minutes from Hwy 99 if you are coming from Vancouver or nearby Metro Vancouver areas. Campbell Valley park is over 1400 acres with over 11 kilometers of trails that are designed and maintained for horses.

With everyone looking for outdoor activities that are away from others, a trail ride is perfect! We met Gene and Joanne under the trees next to the parking lot and after quickly filling out waivers, we were offered helmets and led out to our horses.

Right off the parking lot, the trail begins, and we wound downhill into the park. At the bottom, the trail opened into what used to be farms, that were bought up and turned into what is now Campbell Valley Park. Our ride was just an hour, so after wanding the fields, we headed back towards the equestrian centre. (I would suggest you book the 1.5 hour ride if you have the time for it).

My favorite part of being in Campbell Valley park was the silence. We sat atop the horses and could just listen to the clip clop of the horses hooves, or the animals in the trees, or the wind moving the leaves. In such an uncertain time that we have found ourselves in in 2020, taking time to slow down and enjoy the outdoors was nice before the routine of school begins again.
