In 2022, Bastien Industries was taken over by Jason Picard-Binet, a proud member of the Huron-Wendat Nation. I am not going to tell you to skip the mass-produced trinkets because everyone can choose what they like, but there is something special about authentic Canadian-made items. Buying locally made products wherever you travel not only gives you a more authentic souvenir, but it also directly supports the artisans, farmers, and small businesses that keep a destination’s culture alive. Often it is sustainably produced, and is not shipped overseas like many souvenirs you find around the world.
