Adventure-filled destinations, sports trips, and cultural experiences for families with older kids.
Travel changes when your kids become teens (or even sooner, depending on your kids)! They want more freedom, more adrenaline, better food, and experiences that feel authentic. No longer does playing at a random playground hold their interest for hours or a quick stop into a convenience store substitute for a meal!
Over the last 14 years, I’ve explored the world with my two boys, evolving from playgrounds, beaches and waterparks to food tours, hockey games, water activities, and things that pique their current interests.
Here you’ll find real-world teen travel itineraries, active adventures, city breaks, and destination guides designed for families with teens.

Why Travel With Teens Is Different
Traveling with teens comes with a different set of challenges and opportunities. If you are in this era, you likely know exactly what I mean. My teens value their friends, their sports, and being able to stay connected while we travel (yours might even not want – or be able to – miss school!)
My kids want better food, meaningful experiences, independence, entertainment, and downtime. They’re old enough to appreciate history, culture, and adventure, but still young enough that family travel is fun!
We’ve found the sweet spot lies in balancing:
- independence with connection
- combining active adventure or entertainment with downtime
- iconic attractions with authentic local experiences
Some of our best family memories are happening right now! And I am loving every bit of it!
