No One Does it Like Movenpick: Egerkingen Hotel Review

2017-09-26 by Lindsay Nieminen

Four Star Accomodation in Switzerland near Basel Movenpick Egerkingen

No One Does it Like Movenpick: Egerkingen Hotel Review

Movenpick Egerkingen is a 4 star hotel in Switzerland conveniently located near Basel and Zurich. It is an ideal stopover for those travelling by car, like we were as we road tripped this summer. What sold me on the hotel, besides the brand, was their awesome family accommodation!

Check out this link if you are looking for things to do in Basel!

Family Room Movenpick Egerkingen – What Kid (or Adult) would not love this!

The Movenpick chain of hotels have come to be my favourite. If there is a Movenpick in town, chances are, I a staying in it. After visiting the Movenpick Petra in Jordan earlier this year, when I knew we were headed to Switzerland, Movenpick was where I wanted to stay.

We booked three nights at the Movenpick Geneva Airport hotel and I was thoroughly impressed. The boys received chocolate from the staff wherever we went, there was their own special soap and wash buddies and the food at their Japanese Restaurant was amazing (more on that coming soon).

But more about Movenpick Egerkingen. I chose this hotel because of its cute family suites. They are essentially two hotel rooms, which satisfies one of my family hotel musts, Space! The boys had bunk beds, as well as a third single bed, their own TV, space to play in their room, and their own bathroom. The interconnected rooms meant we had a small hallway between the rooms, where the other room boasted the main bathroom, a queen size bed with a TV and minibar.

The Movenpick Egerkingen is in an older building, but its interior is nothing but great. 137 recently renovated rooms await visitors as well as an outdoor terrace, buffet area, indoor eating area, as well as a large lobby with fruit (and chocolate) for guests. This hotel is centrally located for day trips to Basel, Zurich or Lucerne, which was what we chose to do.

Parking was 7 Swiss Francs per night, which considering it was up a mountain and not somewhere you could access without a vehicle, seemed a bit odd. But CHF 7 was much cheaper than the 20 CHF we paid in the major cities in Switzerland for parking at hotels.

What we love:

  • Movenpick has the comfiest beds I have ever slept on. They even offer a pillow menu (which I have yet to use, because their beds are perfect to begin with) that is ideal for those with allergies or want something like a buckwheat pillow.
  • Movenpick buffet breakfast starts the day off right. From cold cheese and meats to hot entrees and breads, the movenpick buffet has everything you need. Egerkingen even had Honey Comb so the kids could chew on one or take the liquid honey for their toast! Pimp your Preseco was my favourite station with assorted syrup and fruits to complement the breakfast cocktail.
  • The staff were helpful, courteous and friendly as we have come to expect with Movenpick. every need we had was taken care of and they were constantly handing out mini chocolates, much to Mattias and Markus’ delight!

What we did not like:

  • Every other Movenpick that we have stayed in has nespresso machines (which the kids love, to make me coffee, and I love too. their expresso is amazing. they are like Keurig machines) So I was a bit sad to just see instant coffee. But their restaurant did serve all types of specialty coffees, so I was able to get my caffeine fix at breakfast!
