VICTORIA IN THE RAIN WITH KIDS

We arrived in Victoria during the South Coast of British Columbia’s worst weather related power outage in history. But you wouldn’t know it as soon as we got into Active Pass, the waters were calm and the weather was sunny. But it did not stay sunny. Despite the fact that Victoria gets quite a bit less rain than Vancouver because of its favourable position on the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains in Washington State to the south, we had a bit of a wet week. But we didn’t despair. Here is a list of what to do in Victoria in the rain, with kids!

Here are some great things to do in Victoria in the rain with kids

Royal BC Museum Victoria
Woolly Mammoth Display – Natural History Gallery, Royal BC Museum
1. Visit the Royal BC Museum

Marvel at the Woolly Mammoth and take a walk through history at the Royal BC Museum. We love it for kids because you can see everything in a few hours! There are lots of interactive displays for the kids to touch and explore! They also feature different exhibitions so check out their website for what is on display!

2. See and IMAX movie

Head on in to the IMAX theatre at the Royal BC Museum and gaze up at the 6 foot tall screen. Various show play hourly so check the schedule of what’s on here.

3. Go Whale Watching

It is such an amazing experience to see these beautiful animals in their natural environment. I’m Partial to Orca Spirit Adventures, you can read my post on them here. We had such a great time with them, despite the weather, and would love to get out there again!

4. Visit the Bug Zoo

Right in the middle of downtown is the Bug Zoo, which offers kids of all ages to marvel at the tropical bugs and see Canada’s largest ant colony!

5. Shop in Uptown or the Bay Center

Shopping? Need i say more? Ok, maybe not all of the members of our family love shopping, but mom deserves a few minutes to browse right??

6. Visit the Shaw Ocean Discovery Center

Head out of downtown to marvel at the coastal sealife aquarium in Sidney at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre . If you check out their website they have some cute scavenger hunt printables to bring with you on your visit!

Checking out the Birds and the Butterflies

7. Warm up in the Butterfly Gardens Jungle Like Atrium

Walk through the 12 000 sqft atrium full of free-flying butterflies, koi, birds, tortoises and other animals at the Butterfly Gardens. The Butterfly gardens is located near Butchart Gardens. Expect to spend about an hour to wander slowly through the atrium.

8. Feed the Seals at Fisherman’s Wharf

The Seas and the River Otter’s at Fisherman’s Wharf don’t mind the rain! Throw on a rain jacket and buy some herring from the Fish Store (6 for $5.25). It’s a great thrill for young and old!

9. Go Jump in Some Puddles

Its Canada, it’s the West Coast, it’s green for a reason! Put on some uggs or bogs, grab a jacket and go jump in the puddles! Don’t let the weather ruin your day!
