What to buy in Québec City: Quebec City Souvenirs & Gifts to Bring Home

2023-07-02 by Lindsay Nieminen

This guide has the top Québec City souvenirs and unique items you can only get in Quebec, Canada!

If you are wondering what to buy in Québec City then you are in the right place. I am always on the hunt for unique souvenirs and statement travel pieces to add to my home. I also love browsing shopping malls in foreign cities and countries to see what is the same and what is different. Souvenir shopping in Québec City can be a lot of fun! This guide to Québec City souvenirs and gifts has popular Canadian souvenirs as well as unique items to buy as mementos from a trip or gifts for friends and family!

Quebec city souvenirs and gifts.

Best Souvenirs from Québec City

Maple Syrup

Known as Canada’s liquid gold, maple syrup is a popular souvenir from Québec City. Look for maple candies, maple butter, or maple syrup-infused treats to bring a taste of Quebec home. You can find Maple syrup at souvenir shops all over Québec City, as well as in grocery stores, shops like Costco, and the duty-free airport shops!

Local Artwork from Québec City

Québec City is rich in artisanal craftsmanship. Look for handcrafted items such as pottery, wooden carvings, leather goods, or traditional Quebecois crafts like “Santons” (Christmas figurines) and “Toutou” (stuffed animals).

Québec City’s picturesque landscapes and historic architecture make it a popular subject for artists and photographers. Consider purchasing prints or photographs that capture the city’s charm.

Local Craft Ciders and Beer Merchandise

Quebec is renowned for its ice cider, a sweet and flavorful beverage made from frozen apples. Look for a bottle of ice cider from one of the local cideries. You can also buy merch from local cieries and breweries which become things you can only buy in Quebec! If you are looking to show more of a Canadian presence, Molson is well known around the world as a great Canadian beer for its tagline “I Am Canadian.”

Canadian Spirits

Quebec has a burgeoning craft distillery scene. Look for locally distilled spirits like gin, vodka, or whiskey, which often incorporate regional ingredients and flavors. Spirit drinkers will love a bottle of Crown Royal or Canadian Club as one of the top things to get at the duty-free in Québec City to take back home. You can get it at the duty-free land crossings or airports before you leave or at any liquor store in the province.

Québec City-themed Souvenirs

If you are looking for a cheap Québec City souvenir then do not worry! Look for items that represent the city’s landmarks and culture, such as keychains, mugs, t-shirts, or postcards featuring images of attractions like Château Frontenac, Place Royale, or the city walls. These are perfect for the budget-conscious traveler and are another unique item you can only get in Quebec!

Edible Québec City Souvenirs

Quebec produces a wide variety of delicious cheeses. Look for specialties like Le Migneron de Charlevoix, Riopelle, or 1608 cheese, all of which are local favorites. It is also known for its duck products, particularly those from the Lac Brome region. Consider picking up duck pâté, duck confit, or duck rillettes as a gourmet souvenir.

Indulge your sweet tooth with handmade chocolates from local chocolatiers like Chocolaterie de l’Île d’Orléans or Érico Chocolaterie.

If you want some more edible items that you can only get in Canada, grab yourself some Ketchup chips, Smoked Salmon, Ruffles All Dressed Chips, Smarties chocolates, or Coffee Crisp chocolate bars. You can pick up these items at any grocery store!

Indigenous Souvenirs from Québec City

One of the popular things to buy in Montreal is Indigenous souvenirs. Explore the city’s Indigenous culture by purchasing handmade crafts like dreamcatchers, moccasins, or traditional artwork made by local Indigenous artists. Ensure you do not buy cheap imports.

Tim Hortons Mug

Coffee and Tim Hortons are synonyms in Canada. Asking someone if they want a “Timmys” is the same as asking if they want a coffee. If you want to know what to buy in Montreal and have a thing for coffee, skip the Starbucks cups and get yourself a Tim Horton’s Travel Mug from any Tim Horton’s store.

Remember to check local regulations and customs restrictions before purchasing any food or plant-related souvenirs. Enjoy your time in Montreal and have fun shopping for these unique mementos!

Poutine

If you are looking for things to buy in Quebec City then poutine is going to be it! Quebec’s iconic dish, poutine, consists of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. While not a traditional souvenir, trying poutine from a local restaurant can be a tasty and memorable experience.

Aurora Heat Hand Warmers

While these have to be bought online, Aurora Heat hand warmers are one of my favorite souvenirs that come from Canada. They are made in Canada and offer amazing protection from cold! My favorite use is when I am watching my son’s hockey game in the cold ice rink! Check out my full review of them as well as where to buy!
